Dedication

This Anthropology, newly corrected and improved, is dedicated to the Royal Academy of Sciences of Turin as a sign of gratitude for my election to membership, and to draw the attention of its members to the psychological and physiological investigations which form the object of the study and are so important for the progress of the science of the human being, and for the good of humanity. I hope that the complex nature of these investigations and the difficulty of establishing them on a firm foundation will allow you, my illustrious colleagues of the Academy, to forgive the imperfections of the work, and enable me to gain your co-operation in perfecting it. If the book should seem worthy of your study, science will have gained simply from the judgment you bring to it, and I will be your debtor.
